Wow, some of these reviews are disgusting... this is a service that provided for FREE. YOU CAN MAKE FREE CALL W/IN THE US!!! WHATS TO WHINE ABOUT? SO WHAT IF IT HAS A SHORT 20SEC AD, I WOULD WAIT 1MIN TO MAKE A FREE CALL W/O RESTRICTIONS. THESE DAYS NOTHING LIKE THIS IS FREE AND THERE ARE PEOPLE ON HERE THAT COMPLAIN? I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY...DEV, I APOLOGIZE FOR ALL THIS UNGRATEFUL PEOPLE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM INSTALLING OR USING THIS PROGRAM. IT IS FLAWLESS FOR ME AND IM GRATEFUL FOR THE PROGRAM. Im glad I could get rid of my 2nd cellphone that I use mainly when Im home. Ive tried Vonage and GTalk but nothing was as simple and user friendly as this app. Maybe it only works for Apple people. Pros: 1) FREE 2) No restrictions when calls are to and from US, no restrictions on mins unlike most other programs. 3) Clarity 4) User friendly 5) Can use anywhere there is WI-FI or 3G access 6) No monthly fee. 7) Versitility- can use on all Apple devices and Windows(have not tried). 8) Can make calls from MB Pro and iPad at the same time(same number shows up). Cons: 1) 10sec ad(which I have no problem dealing with...) 2) No VM (that I know of...) 3) Doesnt work on Andriod devices. 4) Intl rate are more expensive than Skype but does not provide free calling anywhere. ALL IN ALL A GREAT FREE PROG!!!

Asks for all of your info, even birthdate, email.. then plays ads before you can call each time! Lots of fake looking reviews here.........hhhmmmmm shady.

love this thing. i use the software for conference calls, and it frees up my phone. just great!

I think its a great use for a home phone and it works fantastic. Commercials are a bit annoying but hey its free!

Works well on both my Touch and MBP. I just needed a simple, easy phone app that didnt use up alot of overhead. Easier to use on the MBP than google voice as you dont have to open google mail to use it. Fantastic on the Touch as well,just got done with a 90 min call with no problems. Two small downsides.The intro commercials are annoying but hey,its a free service! And second,it dosent play nice with a couple of phone trees that I deal with. They answer during the intro and just go haywire.Thats what you get for going offshore ! All in all,good app!

Although I can make free calls and receive free calls, the 3G connection is terrible, even the wi-fi connection is terrible. The ad in front of the phone call didnt even bother me but the lack of bandwidth? or whatever, where people on the other end cant hear me well, its a great concept, sucky execution. Stick w/ Skype & Google Voice.

the sound quality needs to be improved urgently would be better if add texting feature

For those that complain about commercials when making free calls, I would suggest getting a cell or landline phone and paying for it. Or, pay Whistle for ad-free calls. I would not pay for outgoing with Whistle, there are plenty of alternatives that are less expensive for calling from a computer. But this company is not in business to go bankrupt, they have to generate revenue somehow, and I would guess the amount of paying users is small, given the pricing (currently .017/minute). The interface is ok, the asthetics are awful, but free and good looking generally dont happen.

I signed up for a phone number and when I try to place a call it doest let me. it says "Call Failed. No service?"

will not work. have tryed many ways, but my ips will not allow this app becuase it has a tendancey to send viruses.

Really glad I found this! Had been looking for a reason to not have a cell phone and this fit my needs just fine. Theres some breaking up on calls sometimes when both parties are trying to talk at the same time, but when you take turns talking (like on walkie-talkies) it sounds great! Ive got it installed on my macbook and I am loving it so far. Wish I would have found it a long time ago! AND ITS FREE!!!!!! Ive called out about thirty times now and Ive only heard an advertisement about five times. NOTE: If you close your laptop, make sure to close and restart Whistle phone again. If you dont it will look like Whistle Phone is still on but you wont get incoming calls, even though you can still make outgoing calls. Just restart the app.

Having used many VOIP apps on macs, iPhones, and iPads, I found Whistle refreshing in its simple UI approach and good audio quality. The 3-way and 2-line features are both real assets as well. The 20-sec ads are a bit annoying, but seem a small price to pay for high-quality free VOIP. Some aspects of their system need further debugging, though. For example, if I share the same account between my iPad, laptop, and destop, Id expect an incoming call to ring all three (and respond to the one I answered). No such luck: it picks one of the devices, seemingly at random (which is to say, I cant figure out the basis for its choice after several experiments). This means I cant use a single incoming number to reach me on whatever machine Im using, a serious drawback. Moreover, their "follow me" (extra cost) option seems a poor substitute, as it redirects to a list of different numbers in sequence, rather than making a single number access multiple devices simultaneously. Whistler could score big if they did this right, perhaps becoming the mobile VOIP standard. I hope they do. Failing that, I hope someone else does…

Seems to work just fine for me, would have gave it 5 stars but I wasnt a fan of the advertisment for the first 15-20secs of the phone call. But for free what can you expect. Very nice app though.

Half the time it asks for a password, resets the call, asks for the password again, hangs up and incoming calls do not work. Its a complete waste of time. Spent a hour trying to get it to at least recieve a call and wouldnt even do that. Tried to connect to customer support, wouldnt accept my password AND set my ticket as private TWICE!. Wouldnt recomend this program to my worst enemy.

Update: Dont work.

this app is the worst they used to give you free time now they dont give you anything any more I will be canceling my account and never use this product again. You would get free 20 min calls now you dont this is really lame.

This company makes apps free and then once they get notariaty they charge. THIS APP IS NOW USELESS - NO LONGER FREE. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME
